The spiny bubbler ( Turdoides nipalensis ) is a rare species of bird that is only endemic to the country among 867 birds species found in Nepal.  It is the species of bird in the family leiothrichidae. It is an elegant and spectacular greyish – brown bird locally knows as kande Bhyakur in Nepal. Spiny bubbler is commonly spotted at  the  edge of Gadi – siraichuli forest   located at the elevation of 1150m.It is the  largest and the richest forest having a wide variety of shrubs , subtropical mixed broad leaf trees and wild life .It is believed  that this bird is  found  in the middle hills forest  of Nepal between the elevation of 500m- 2135m i.e in  Kathmandu valley near Godabari and phulchoki area close to the lalitpur city  but now due to rapid urbanization and clearance of scrub for agriculture ,it has became rare to that place and this bird is included as one of the threatened bird species  in Nepal .

Spiny bubbler is predominantly a shy bird so it is rarely to be foreseen by the human eyes .It can be seen in the early breeding season when the males sing out in the open. Male spiny bubbler lives  in dense scrubs and mounts branches of bushes and small trees to sing. It has medium sized body with a sharp beak . At once upon a time the history , it was thought that this bird has became extinct but later on when American ornithologist ¡°Sidney Dillon Ripley ¡° came to know about its extinction , this bird suddenly came under everyone¡¯s attention. So it is fact that this bird is not   recorded in the list of extinction  but due to its scarce nature it should be protected and should be given especial attention. The  total population size  of this bird is unknown and  they have a range restriction .It is believed that their population is stable till apparent condition.
