Zero Waste Lifestyle (Monthly Report )

by Sagar Koirala | 01-10-2020 01:55 recommendations 0

Hello Tunza family,
Green Cheers from Nepal

Today I am going to write about my Zero Waste Lifestyle. After doing a campaign about Sustainability lifestyle habits, I wanted to write about Zero Waste Lifestyle . I thought of writing previously but due to other commitments, I had to shelve my idea. But this time I thought to write about it anyhow.

Well, lets start with my fooding habit. I am vegeterian since past 18 years and prefers to take dairy items and fruits instead of meat items. I am proud to say that my diet has less negative impact on earth than other non-veg diets. I have always advocated for vegeterian lifestyle and urge others to accept it as well if possible. I am member of pro-veg group and we work for promotion of vegeterian diet.
Talking about my another sustainable habit, it is cycling and walking as much as possible. I have never rode motorbike or scooty or any four-wheeler till date. I prefer walking even if the distance is around 5-6 kilometers. I do not take unless its farther distance or scorching heat.
I carpool and hitchhike a lot . During my stay in Pokhara, most of my journey to and from college had wonderful memories of hitchhiking. I love to ask strangers for ride and network with them.
I carry a jute bag and one back-bag everytime i travel or go to market. I have avoided plastic in almost 95% times and use it only in extreme conditions.
The ready-made food items found in groceries are wrapped with colorful covering. More colorful is the plastic, more it is difficult to recycle and some wrappings cannot be recycled. Previously, I used to consume too much chips and other plastic-packaged food items. But since past six months, I have avoided them and is planning to avoid them as much possible throughout my life.
I have compost pit in my house. There are two separate dustbin in my house and we use separate dustbin for decomposable and non-decomposable ones. We fill our decomposable wastages there and let them to to rot and decay ultimately turning them to fertilizer. We use compost fertilizer in our field and grow leguminous crop Dhaincha once a year to suppliment necessary nitrogen.
I usually carry water- bottle wherever I travel. I do not prefer to buy water bottle unless its emergency.
I use the plastic bottles, cover of milk packet and other non-decomposable material in gardening. I believe it will be useful in reducing plastic pollution.
We have biogas in our home. We have been using it since past 12 years and cook food in it.
I used to leave some rice in my plate everytime in my school and high school days. But since joining agriculture science,  I understood the importance of food and start to consume every grain of rice on the plate

These are few of my zero waste lifestyle. Though I had less zero waste lifestyle previously but since past few months or around one year, I have shifted to sustainable and zero waste lifestyle practices.
