Eco-Friendly Supplements Help You and the Planet

by Carol Evenson | 24-09-2020 09:07 recommendations 0

In today¡¯s fast-paced world, you need to be at your best every day. Exercise, a healthy diet and proper sleep habits form the foundation on which you build your optimal lifestyle. Dietary supplements can help you reach your health goals. What if you are working to build eco-friendly habits, though? Here are some environmentally conscious supplements you can add to your diet.

Plant-based protein

Protein from plant sources is eco-friendly because plants use less water and land space for growth than animals. In addition, plants absorb carbon dioxide and filter pollutants and microscopic particles from the air. Plant-based protein powder is made from peas, sunflowers, pumpkin seeds, brown rice, soy, chia or a blend of plants.

AMPK Supplements

AMP-activated protein kinase is an enzyme that plays an important role in energy balance and metabolism. It detects and regulates energy levels in cells. Active PK ingredients include plant-based sources. AMPK supplements are used to boost energy, clear a foggy brain and reduce abdominal fat.

CBD

Hemp-derived CBD is quite friendly to the environment. An ancient plant cultivated for hundreds of years, hemp is easy to grow and doesn¡¯t need much water. CBD has emerged on the market in a vast array of products. CBD oils and supplements are used to treat nerve pain, anxiety and inflammation.

Probiotics

While many probiotics are derived from dairy products, plant-based probiotics also contain the live and active cultures that create a healthy gut environment rich in helpful bacteria. Probiotics support digestive health, aid in the absorption of nutrients, boost the immune system and can improve mood.

Algae Supplements

While the benefits of fish oil are well known, algae supplements can provide many of the same benefits without taking resources from marine ecosystems that may be overfished. Algae supplements contain omega-3 fatty acids at levels comparable to fish oil. Algae supplements are vegan and have a neutral flavor that is easy on the digestive system. They contain protein, B vitamins, iron and copper, have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and can lower LDL cholesterol.

Vegan Vitamin B12

Most sources of B12 come from animal products such as milk, fish, poultry, meat and eggs. Like plant-based protein powder, vegan B12 supplements are eco friendly because plant products have a smaller carbon footprint than animal products. Vitamin B12 is linked to bone and heart health, increased energy and prevention of macular degeneration.

Organic Collagen

While collagen supplements contain animal products, organic collagen is derived from grass-fed sources. Many of these supplements also contain plant-derived ingredients such as spinach, kale, coconuts and turmeric. Collagen, the most abundant protein in the body, takes its name from the Greek word for glue. It¡¯s one of the major building blocks for ligaments, skin, bones and tendons. Collagen is often used in topical treatments designed to improve the elasticity of skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Natural Vitamin E

Studies have shown that the human body knows the difference between synthetic and natural vitamin E. Natural vitamin E is retained in body tissues longer than the synthetic version. Natural vitamin E is derived from vegetable oils, chiefly soybean oil. A variety of skin conditions, such as dryness, itching, scars, wounds, eczema and psoriasis, are treated with vitamin E.

Organic Turmeric

Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, is used to treat inflammation throughout the body. Menstrual cramps, fatigue, arthritis and inflammatory skin problems like acne are some of the reasons people add turmeric to their diets. Seek organic brands to add in the environmentally-friendly benefit. Also, look for black pepper extract as an ingredient as it aids with absorption. Add eco-friendly supplements to your diet and you¡¯ll feel better knowing that you¡¯re not only doing good for yourself, but also for the planet.
