Monthly Event: Earth Overshoot Day

by Sandhya Adhikari | 01-09-2020 01:09 recommendations 0

Tunza Eco Generation always amazes us with a lot of creative opportunity and finally it about Earth overshoot Day! A very new topics for me indeed but is really interesting to know about new subject. This day marks the date when humanity has exhausted nature¡¯s budget for the year. We are operating in overshoot as for the rest of the  year we are maintain our ecological deficit by drawing down local resources stocks and accumulating carbondioxide in the atmosphere. This year Earth  over shoot Day lands on August 22. It is just an estimate rather than exact date, this year its late than other year as the global pandemics has abruptly caused Humanity¡¯s Ecological Footprint to contract. True Sustainability that can only be achieved by proper design not by the disaster.

This will not continue after the pandemics, overshoot day falls early each year as the human population grows continuously, the more human the more consumption in natural resources than the planet can regenerate in a year, and emits more carbon dioxide than the forest can sequester.

This time I had calculated my overshoot day by taking the quiz. The result has just shocked me, I found that:

My personal overshoot day is 07 June, which is too early. If everyone lives like me we would need 2.3 earth but we have only one earth in this universe, My ecological footprint is 3.9 global hectar, my carbon footprint is .5 Co2 emission in tonns per year, my carbon footprint was found to be 44% of total ecological footprint. With this result I was shocked as well confused, now I believe that on the next year my overshoot day will be better than this year.

#Move the date

I am Sandhya Adhikari

I will be 50 in 2050

I want Zero waste in the environment either in the form of food, or energy. I wish every people make the habit of reducing carbon footprint and enhance ecological foot print.

I had celebrated this campaign with wider audience i.e with three generation people. My granny, my mom and me. I had described them about this day and asked them to write move the date in their palm. As well my friends has also showed keen interest on this campaign and I described them about this day and they were extremely shocked to believe the result of my overshoot  They had also promised to enhance ecological footprint reducing carbon foot print. I had shared this information to social media in our page of Tunza Eco Network, Nepal. Here is the video showing the participation in this events.
