21st Century Problems need 21st Century Leaders

by Sarvik Chaudhary | 10-08-2020 01:22 recommendations 2

2020 is a year to remember. Our world today faces numerous problems-Climate Change, racial discrimination, Beirut blasts, melting glaciers -which makes one wonder how the future might look like for us. Going by current standards, it sure does not seem too pretty.

The world population is rising at its fastest rate and is expected to cross 10 billion by 2050. According to experts, the next thirty years will give our planet quite a tough time the air could be thick with pollution, worsening lung conditions and respiratory diseases killing approximately six million people every year. The new tech devices that characterize the 21st century all require rare earth metals to make them, which is putting a strain on the planet's natural resources. If the current trends of climate change continue, we might have to come to terms with losing swathes of cities, the Islands and low-lying regions like Bangladesh to rising sea levels and floods. The economic impact to the regions will be profound, and climate refugees could become the norm. The rain forests could

face total annihilation. Diseases will spread with ease. Hurricanes could become more frequent and severe. Cyber-attacks could increase, and classified information could easily be spread, causing tangible damage. And the rate at which Al is developing, it could only prove to be dangerous for the human race in the coming future.

These problems need quick solutions, and the solutions to most, if not all problems, are 'us' and by us I mean the 2 billion youngsters (aged 18 to 35) of this planet. We have done enough protests and we have blamed the world leaders enough, now it's time we start putting ourselves to work. We need to remember that it is the actions of our previous generations that have resulted in the problems we face today, which is why we need to be cautious while performing each and every

activity in our daily lives, no matter how small, because it is the little things that 7 billion people ignore and when those little things are done by 7 billion people, it's not very little. We need to prepare ourselves to be capable enough to face and solve the problems of 2050, because the 21st century problems demand 21t century leaders. And not just political leaders, but leaders in the field of economics, climate change, science, agriculture, corporate world, and all the other sectors that will help us in shaping the future.

The next world leaders are possibly sitting in a classroom right now and it'll be the 2 billion of us who'll be sitting in top offices in the coming years. Which is why it is necessary that we build ourselves with moral values, ethics, information technology and a sense of responsibility. And by building ourselves, we won't just be developing as individuals, but we'll be developing the future of this planet. So, let's stop doing the thousands of tons of big talk and start doing the little ounces of

practice that the world needs. All we need to do is perfect the means, and the end will take care of itself.

Our planet is need of help, it's time we come to rescue.
