National biodiversity Week is all about connecting people with nature .Its about communicating the importance of biodiversity and motivating people to play their part in protecting it.
The UN has proclaimed 22 May as The international Day for biological diversity to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. The theme of International Day of biological Diversity is Our solutions are in nature-our answers can be be found in nature and it is our utmost priority to preserve it.
In recanigation of the international of the International Day for biological diversity ,the United Nations had set of 4 days leading up yo May 22 with different theme, each day representing different each box in the main logo with meaning. May 18(Polar bear)-Science and technological knowledge May 19(Goose)-Conservation of biodiversity May 20(Bee)-Health,food and Biodiversity May 21(Girls)-People ,Culture and Biodiversity
Under monthly event,I am going to write about one of the four symbols on the International Day for Biological Diversity logo:Bee.
Bee Bees are the major pollinator of pollinated crops.80% of insect pollination is carried out by bee.Bee are flying insect closely related to wasps and ant.It belongs to genus Apis of order hymenoptera and family apideae. As pollinator ,bees plays and important role in ecosystem .They support growth of plants ,help them breed and produce food.Bee contributes to complex, interconnected ecosystem that allow the diverse number of different species to co-exits.Honey bee produce honey, royal jelly ,wax and plays important role in human nutrition and health.Bees travels an average of 1600 trips in order to produce one ounce of honey;up to 6 miles per trips.Bees from the same hive visit about 225,000 flowers per day.
My contribution on International Day of biological diversity 2020
After green revolution in agriculture sector ,farmer are using different chemical either to kills crop pathogen or to increase yield. The excessive use of chemicals on plants has directly affect the population of bees .Most insecticides are applied as spray to the crops.A single droplets of insecticides may be sufficient to kill a bees. According to a new study,Neonicotinoids,a class of neuroactive insecticides chemically similar to nicotine ,are toxic to bees. These chemicals are absorbed by plants and can be present in pollen and nectar. These insecticides are closely linked with colony collapse disorder(CCD). The insecticides may deteriorate the quality of honey.
On the occasion of International Day of biological Diversity ,I through to aware farmer around my home about importance of bee and impact of insecticides on bees. First of all ,I introduce about International day of Biological diversity and its importance. Also ,I suggest them to use organic fertilizer and organic method of pest control. It was great experiences with them. I took full precautions of COVID-19 during this activity.
Thank you !! #Greencheers #IDB #Ecogeneration
