Bamboo- A green gold Bamboos are evergreen flowering plants in the subfamily Bambusoideae of the grass family Poaceae. The word "bamboo" comes from the Dutch or Portuguese languages and it Bamboos include some of the fastest-growing plants in the world due to a unique rhizome-dependent organization. Bamboo, once known as the poor man¡¯s timber, is now being stated to as green gold because of the growing global demand for it. This is because new methods of processing bamboo are being used to create timber-like building things. The stem is typically hollow and the vascular bundles in the cross-section are distributed throughout the stem instead of in a cylindrical organization. The dicotyledonous woody xylem is also lacking. The absence of secondary growth wood causes the stems of monocots, including the palms and large bamboos, to be columnar fairly than tapering. Bamboos are classically fast-growing perennials, with some species growing as much as 30 cm per day. Bamboo culms can reach heights ranging from 10 to 15 cm in the smallest species to extra than 40 metres in the largest. Most bamboos flower and produce seeds only after 12–120 years¡¯ growth, and then only once in their lifetime; reproduction is mainly vegetative. Some species spread aggressively and can form a dense undergrowth that excludes other plants. What is bamboo used for? -in construction: Bamboo is great for use in construction. Bamboo is actually very strong and the most common use of bamboo is in flooring. -Bamboo as cloth: It can make cloth and yarn that is incredibly soft. Most bamboo cloth is made using a chemical process that involves turning bamboo fibers into regenerated cellulose fiber. -Bamboo as biofuel: All parts of the bamboo plant including the culms, leaves, and stems can be processed in such a way that it forms charcoal briquets. These briquets can be used as a kind of biofuel. In short, Bamboo is called green gold because it is becoming increasingly more valuable in the global economy. Along with the variety of uses it can be put to, it is highly renewable, sustainable, and easy to grow.
