Flamingoes Paint Mumbai Pink! |
---|

Flamingoes migrate to Mumbai every year between the months of October and March.
This year, an exceptional number of flamingoes have migrated to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. They have been mostly spotted near the creeks and wetlands around Navi Mumbai. Not just in India, there have been occurrences of mass migration of flamingoes in different parts of the world too. At the Lagoon of Narta in Albania, the birds have been able to flourish without being disturbed by fishing boats, ferries, and tourists. These flamingoes have come from Italy, Greece, Spain, France and Africa. Tales of curious animals exploring towns and cities empty of humans have emerged around the world, but the phenomenon has been especially noticeable in India due to the country's normally crowded urban areas and high levels of pollution. It's not just the huge number of birds that's attracting attention -- they have also spread to wetlands where they were previously a rarity All in all, a combination of these aforementioned factors has brought to light the magic and beauty of this bird congregation in and around the financial capital of the country. Further, it also highlights the need to protect this bird species and conserving the wetlands they inhabit—something that can be achieved by declaring these areas as flamingo sanctuaries |
