Earth Day 2020 Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The theme of Earth Day 2020 is Climate Action as Earth day celebrates its fifty-year anniversary this year. Due to the state of global emergency worldwide due to the increasing pandemic of covid19, Earth Day was celebrated digitally this year. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day 2020 has been a historic moment when citizens of the world rised up in a united call for the creativity, innovation, ambition, and bravery that we need to meet our climate crisis and seize the enormous opportunities of a zero-carbon future. Let¡¯s take a pledge to make every day an Earth day. My Published Article Related to Climate Change Here are the links to the few climate change articles published in international websites: ¡¤ Climate Change Impacts on Small Landholding Farmers of Nepal http://climateducate.weebly.com/ceblog/climate-change-impacts-on-small-landholding-farmers-of-nepal ¡¤ Climate change and its impact on Nepalese Agriculture https://www.youth-journal.org/climate-change-and-its-impact-on-nepalese-agriculture ¡¤ Climate Change Awareness Campaign https://www.youth-journal.org/climate-change-awareness-camapign ¡¤ Lamjung Climate Convergence https://www.youth-journal.org/lamjung-climate-convergence ¡¤ Youth, Environment and Sustainable Development https://www.youth-journal.org/youth-environment-and-sustainable-development Discussion Forum on Earth Day 2020 theme Knowing views and activities of youths from various part of the world is important. I conducted a discussion forum on the theme of EarthDay 2020 on the platform of youthlead.org. You can view all the discussion on: https://www.youthlead.org/discussions/climate-action-earth-day-2020. I am sharing few of the activities shared by the youths from different countries regarding the topic of climate action. Zayithwa Fabiano youth from Malawi said, ¡°Kushal, this is a great topic of discussion, we should do a twitter chat. The climate emergencies in Malawi have been floods, drought and heat waves. My climate actions are; recycling in my home, planting trees, I avoid using firewood and charcoal. Plan for earth day: plant trees and social awareness of the issue.¡± Kerkula Blama Youth from Liberia said ¡°Great topic, I will do few investigations on climate emergencies in my country soon. And I'm hopeful we can have a broad discussion.¡± Asonele Kotu youth from south Africa, ¡°I do freelance work for a solar technology company so for earth day I will be disseminating information around the importance of going green, as in South Africa we have problems with energy supply and loadshedding. Teaching people about alternative *solar* energy as a possibility going forward.¡± Philbert Aganyo Youth from Kenya said, ¡°Kushal, Thanks for the reminder. I am also passionate about Climate Action. Currently I am a Member of the Climate Finance Technical Working Group of the Kenya Platform for Climate Governance, and through this vehicle we are using the Social Media space under specific hashtags to drive awareness of the Climate Change Crisis. Let's connect some more and join efforts.I shall sure be part of the 2020 Celebrations.¡± Everyday as Earth Day is an important event that takes place on April 22 every year but celebrating it only day isn¡¯t enough to save our planet. We need to make our every day as earth day. Here are the ways which makes me celebrate each day as my earth day: 1. I carry Tunza Eco bag instead of plastics. 2. I Reduce, Reuse and Recycle 3. I separate the waste and manage them properly. I make composting of the biodegradable waste 4. I have Kitchen gardening where Organic farming is done without pesticides. 5. I keep my environment Clean and Green 6. I organize and participate in awareness campaign 7. I make the best utilization of resources Webinar on Covid19 and Environment I will be facilitating a webinar at 6:45 PM to 7:45 PM NST (9:00AM- 10:00AM EST) on Thursday, 30th April on the topic of What Youths Can learn about the environment amid the covid19 pandemic. The global coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating and catastrophic impact on health and economies on a global scale. However, as the world continues to look for hope amid the crisis, the environment seems to give us a glimpse of hope for the future ahead. ¡°Visible, positive impacts – whether through improved air quality or reduced greenhouse gas emissions – are but temporary, because they come on the back of tragic economic slowdown and human distress" -Inger Andersen, Executive Director, UNEP. In this webinar, As environment activist I will discuss what can learn about the pandemic and the environment, and highlight the need to recognize youth and local efforts in advocating for a safer environment post-Covid-19. In other to sustain the positive impact, however temporary, it is pertinent that organizations and youth are engaged in the process of leading, championing, and supporting policies, awareness, and other impact activities. As Eco Hero and EcoGeneration Regional will be sharing their knowledge and experience on championing youth engagement and participation in the environment through the cases of Nepal. We all can be global heroes for a sustainable environment. Wishing everyone a Happy Earth Day. – Kushal Naharki Regional Ambassador to Asia, EcoGeneration Hidden Eco Hero 2018 |
