One horned rhinos: also known as Indian rhinoceros, is grey gain, second only to elephant in size.it weighs about 2-2.5 metric ton .Rhinos prefer to live a solitary life, besides grazing and swallowing time. They are very common in South Asia and South East Asia. In Nepal, Rhino population was estimated about 1000 in chitwan valley until 1950.The area was well protected by Rana for sport hunting .After the end of Rana regimein 1950 , followed bythe eradication of malaria during mid 1950's, chitwan opened to outsiders, which was mainly occupied by Tharu's until 1950. Thousands of people came down from the mid hills and large swathes wildlife habitat was cleared for human settlement ,agriculture and other practices . Due to this human activity, it affected rhinos including others mammals too. Rhino population gradually decreased to less satisfy from 1000. Considering this decline, Government of Nepal established the "Gaida Gasti" , an armed rhino patrol until in 1961. Later Chitwan National Park was established for rhino protection in 1973. After the successful effort of Department of National Park, wildlife reserves too established. These helped in increasing the population of rhinos. At present about 645 rhinos are found by strict rules and its regulation by us.

Hello Susmita!!
I hope you are fine and doing great.
I really enjoyed going through yours report.
Government should make different acts and policies which ought to be implemented effectively.
One-horned rhinoceros is the wealth of our country so it should be prevented timely so that it does not get enlisted in the endangered animals.
Keep writing and shining.
hope to know more from you.
Warm regards,

Hello Susmita,
One-horned rhinos are pride of our country as they are rarely found elsewhere and are equally important due to their multi-purpose.
But their illegal hunting has decreased their number so proper conservation areas and strategies are to be made and is to be implemented effectively.
Thank you for your report.
Green Cheers,
Shreya
