Sustainable Clothing Pieces for Seasonal Dressing |

The four seasons bring beauty and a welcome change to the daily routine of one's life. Spring is a season for renewal after a hibernation session in the winter where internal growth takes place. Summer proceeds spring as a time to burst forth and accomplish great things. After reaping one's rewards from summer pursuits, it's time to slowly wind down for the cooler weather. Fall is exactly the time to gradually adjust between hot and cold. Each seasonal change is reflected in the composition of your wardrobe. FallWhen one thinks of fall, one conjures up an image of layers. Light tops and bottoms still work for the beginning of fall. Add a light sweater, light jacket, warmer skirts and pants as the temperature drops. Fall is where the rainy season begins in some climates, hence, add rain gear such as raincoats and rain boots into the mix. Rain boots are not the same as fashion boots as they are made to be waterproof and have more traction for slippery surfaces. Lips start getting chapped as the summer humidity wears off. Keep your lips moist and hydrated with medicated lip balm. The dry atmosphere also contributes to dry skin and is a source of bruises from paper cuts. To avoid this, moisturize your hands with a fresh coat of hand cream in-between hand washings. WinterAs the temperature drops to freezing numbers, keep warm outdoors with a heavier jacket or long coat. Keep the layering for indoor dressing so that you can remove the bulk when necessary. If you live in a temperature-controlled apartment setting, where you have no control over the central heating, you will need to layer to feel comfortable. Your landlord may be generous to keep your apartment cozy and warm so you can dress down inside for the winter. The downside to this benefit is that you cannot put away your summer clothing in storage. You will need to create space in your closet for additional bulky winter clothing. Outdoor winter activities call for skating, skiing, sledding, and building snowmen. Winter apparel for the whole family includes hats, gloves, scarves, earmuffs, optional ski masks, winter boots, adult and kids snow suits. Winter boots are not similar to fashion boots as they hold more traction with specialized tread grooves. Compared to rain boots, winter boots are designed to be heavier and better insulated. SpringWhen spring emerges, you revert to the fall wardrobe. Don't put away your heavy winter coat away yet, because sometimes there is an unpredictable and occasional snowstorm in the middle of March. Spring is also the season for planting outdoors and cleaning up the yard for fallen tree limbs. Yard work will require good gardening gloves and work boots. The temperate outdoor weather is an invitation for you to try walking, jogging, bicycling, hiking, and baseball training. Wearing a good pair of sneakers is ideal for any of these activities. When walking in a poorly-lit area at night, remember to adorn a night reflector belt, bracelet or vest to help other commuters spot you. SummerLight airy clothing made from cotton and linen is ideal for the summer. Although synthetics are more affordable and sold in abundance, the best absorbent fabric is from natural materials such as cotton, hemp, linen, and silk. Mixed synthetic and natural blends have more protection against creases and require less ironing, hence, less maintenance. Contrary to popular belief that one should dress less in the summer, women who fully cover themselves in long sleeves and skirts made from natural material can still be comfortable. Wearing hats and sunscreen outdoors adds a layer of skin protection from harmful ultraviolet radiation. Each season calls for its unique challenges in dressing, however, once one has gone through a full year cycle of living through the seasons, the next year repeats and becomes more bearable. Enjoy the blessings that each season brings and embrace the changes. |
