Musi- A river which flows through the heart of Hyderabad. Now known to be one of the most polluted Nalas across India which used to be a fresh-drinking water stream a few centuries ago. It's traditional role was to support agriculture and cultivation. It¡¯s very common to find a stinking smell, combined with piles of plastic flowing through the Nala everywhere. Although it¡¯s a primary source of floods in this city. Due to indiscriminate urbanization and lack of planning, the river had earlier become a receptacle of untreated domestic and industrial waste dumping out of Hyderabad. The river water downstream of the cities remained highly polluted and is considered to be a major disaster in Hyderabad. Well, there are many rivers which turned polluted over the last centuries such as Gomti, Yamuna, Ganges, Sabarmati, etc. Most of these rivers are home to Toxins and chemical waste where life is not possible. The toxins in it lead to severe amounts of diseases cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid and polio. And many other diseases are caused by pathogens such as bacteria, protozoa, and viruses. |
