Monthly Event - ¡°Protect Birds: Be the Solution to Plastic Pollution!¡± |

Birds, which are animals that are loved in Ghana not only for their beauty but for their nice chipping sounds that serves as alarms for waking some of us up from a goodnight sleep. Scientifically birds are agents of pollination, who help our crops to grow. They again feed on some pests that destroys our crops and sometimes even attack us as human beings. Birds are fun to be with and hence a lot of people keep them as pets. It is therefore with no doubt that birds are of massive importance to survival of mankind and virtually all living things. I love this law of motion which says that; ¡°To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction¡±. Our actions of massive plastic pollution has gotten an opposite reaction from these birds. The birds are responding to stimuli and this has caused a massive shortage in migratory birds. From polluted oceans to destruction of the habitat of birds, indiscriminate dumping of refuse (plastics) which causes pollution and possess threat to the birds and us as living things, some even hunt birds for consumption. This phenomenon is still ongoing so the shortage in migratory birds will keep increasing. What can we do then? As a Tunza Ecogeneration Ambassador to Ghana, I decided to take an action to help curb this worrying situation of dangers posed to migratory birds and birds as a whole. I organized a clean-up exercise with some students of Brain Tree International School (Specifically Grade 5 and Grade 6 students). We cleaned up the environs of the school, got rid of refuse (specifically plastics if there were any) and also trimmed the hedges of some plants around to make the environment conducive for birds and living things in general.
