Why are trees important for stopping Climate Change ?

by sagar koirala | 24-09-2019 00:02 recommendations 0

 As we probably know, plants are capable of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a process that releases oxygen molecules in an atmosphere so for plants oxygen is a waste product. Simplified:

CO2 + water + sunlight -> sugar + OXYGEN

But plants also use that same oxygen for breathing when there is no light to transform sugar to energy:

sugar + oxygen --> CO2 + water + ENERGY

So the question is how is there more oxygen in the air if the plant also needs it?
The answer is that throughout a plant's life, as it grows, it makes more sugar than it burns, and so releases more oxygen than it consumes.

So if there are more trees, there is more oxygen and less CO2 in the atmosphere
