Fire in Amazon rainforest

by Sukriti Pandit | 30-08-2019 02:40 recommendations 0

Amazon rainforest is the world's largest rainforest famed for its biodiversity. People also call it "lungs of the Earth" as it is said to provide 20% of the world's oxygen. It is home to many animals. And now the amazon is in danger. The largest rainforest has been in fire for many days. The exact cause of the fire is not known. Many people are blaming Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro for it. Experts say deforestation and a practice called slash and burn are to blame for most of the flame. People cut down patches and allow area to dry out, then set remains ablaze to make room for agriculture or other department. They might also set fire and replenish soil and encourage the growth of pastures for cattle, Brazil is the world's top exporter of beef according to The department of agriculture.
Amazon plays a huge role in pulling planet warming green house gases out of Atmosphere. Without it, climate change  speeds up. Scientists warn that rainforest could turn into something more like Savanna where it can no longer sustain itself as a rainforest. That would mean it would not be able to soak up nearly as much as Carbon as it does now. As the trees and plants perish, they would release billions of tons of carbon that has been stored for decades making it nearly impossible to escape climatic catastrophe. And those nearer to the fires will face the immidiate effects. Smokes from the fires get so bad that it seemed to turn day into night in Sao Paulo in August 20. The children are suffering from coughing and breathing problem which could lead to serious effects. Not only humans, animals and plants are affected. One in ten of all animal species on Earth call Amazon home and they are greatly affected by it.
It seem that the main cause for the fire is deforestation and human beings are responsible for it. We humans should save our resources not destroy it. Not only Amazon rainforest there are many forests in different parts of the world which are being destroyed for some human benifits. One example is Nijgadh forest in my country, Nepal. It is estimated that 2.4 million trees will have to cut down to build airport. This type of problem in the nature destroys the whole Ecosystem. Every single person should conserve and protect our nature.
