Seasons in Nepal |

In Nepal the climate varies with altitude and topography. Since there are three main geographical regions the climate is accordingly. Terai has hot and humid climate. It lies on southern part of Nepal and is mainly plain land with fertile soil. Agriculture is the main occupation here. Mountain has moderate type of climate. There is little variation in temperature throughout the year. There are mountains all over this region and soil is rocky. The land is not fit for agriculture instead various types of fruits can be grown here. The mid-land region is pleasant almost all the year round, although winter nights are cool. Hilly region is the northernmost part of Nepal. It has snow capped mountain and climate is cold throughout the year with almost no rain. This region is also called desert of Nepal. The main seasons in Nepal are: 1. Monsoon It begins in mid-June and ends at the beginning of September. The rainfall in summer is influenced by Monsoon. 2. Summer It is the hottest season in Nepal generally begins in May and last through August. 3. Autumn It is known as the festival season begins with the end of monsoon and ends with the beginning of winter in November (September to November). 4. Winter Last from November till February and it is the cold months. 5. Spring In this season the sky is not as blue as autumn and begins from February through April. In Nepali calendar these seasons are divided into six categories: Generally, in Nepal seasons are divided into 6 seasons: ¡¤ Basanta Ritu(Spring) ¡¤ Grishma Ritu(Early Summer) ¡¤ Barkha Ritu(Summer Monsoon season) ¡¤ Sharas Ritu(Early Autumn) ¡¤ Hemanta Ritu(Late Autumn) ¡¤ Shishir Ritu(Winter) |
