Goumbook, the leading social enterprise promoting sustainability and green living in the UAE, announces the launch of its second annual campaign. This year nation-wide awareness campaign aimed at young people of the UAE is sponsored this year again by HSBC with the support of the Moral Education Program.

This year Drop It Youth campaign coincides with the theme for World Environment Day 2018 ¡°Beat Plastic Pollution¡±. it is a call to action for all of us to come together to combat one of the great environmental challenges of our time. It is also a great motivation for our youth to be engaged in the fight against plastic pollution.

¡°Our health is at stake¡± said Tatiana Antonelli, MD and Founder of Goumbook. ¡°Tests show billions of people globally are drinking water contaminated by plastic particles¡±.

This year campaign will also focus on solutions that have been achieved. ¡°We are sharing the achievements and solutions achieved around the world with our youth raising awareness on the plastic pollution at the same time¡± said Mrs. Antonelli.

I, Sainath Manikandan and my sister Sai Sahana Manikandan are Drop It Youth Ambassadors for this second DIY campaign and are looking forward to put an end to single-use plastics in our school and community. We would like to inspire sustainable living practices in our schools, with the unique support and guidance of professional environmentalists.

We request our friends, schoolmates and wider community to take online pledges on the Drop It Youth website to take stock of their immediate impact on plastic consumption and associated CO2 emissions. Pledges are structured in 5 categories and encourage people to take a stand against single use plastic cups, bottles, bags, straws, and to drink filtered tap water in an attempt to dramatically reduce their waste, carbon and water footprint.

Let¡¯s try to support the Drop It Youth Campaign and follow these simple steps in our everyday choices to put an end to Plastic Pollution:

1.     Drink filtered tap water.

2.     Carry a reusable water bottle

3.     Take a paper/jute/cotton bag for shopping

4.     Say NO to plastic straws

5.     Use glass containers to store food at home
