Why in News?
Recently 3 Indian cities have been selected as national finalists in the 2017-18 edition of WWF's One Planet City Challenge (OPCC). More about the news • World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) works in collaboration with ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability (a global network of more than 1,500 cities, towns and regions committed to building a sustainable future) to mobilize cities to participate in the One Planet City Challenge. • The three cities Panaji, Pune and Rajkot that are among cities in India's Smart City Mission, will now compete for the title of National and Global Winner. • Given the increasing urbanization in India, cities have a significant role in providing solutions for mitigating carbon emissions as well as preparing for climate resilient development. |
