The Birth of Bridges Philippines |

This is the story of how anything is possible with some drive and motivation.
We were just two normal best friends. We played video games together. We discussed anything from sports to politics and international issues. Then one night, while having a good old video call, we both wondered and questioned why we were not doing anything hands-on. We kept talking about various problems our society, both locally and globally, had. And from that questioining we decided that we had to do something to address all the things we criticized. And in that conversation, Bridges Philippines was born. Here is a narrative of that night I am talking about. "Bridges PH is all about connecting people from all walks of life, to opportunities to do something good and beneficial in small ways. Our non-profit focuses on offering products and promoting initiatives that support SDGs 11 and 12. We offer various products that are eco-friendly alternatives to things part of our everyday lives. The products available on our page are made of recycled and reused, but durable, materials. We believe that you don?t have to go out of your way to do good for society and for our planet, small changes will do! We all want affordable stuff, so all the products we sell are guaranteed to be low-cost and accessible to and for all. Any profit made from your purchases are donated to targeted Filipino organizations that address other important issues in our society, such as cancer, mental health and autism awareness, and education." We asked two more of our friends to help us begin this organization, and serve as its core team. Taking into account the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (Agenda 2030, as it is more commonly known in the international community), we decided to be a bridge for people to be able to live in such a way that would be good for the environment, for the planet, while being able to help other people, and without sacrificing much in their own lives. Our first project, currently ongoing, is to sell metal straws. This is an increasingly popular alternative to one-use plastic straws, which will reduce the plastic waste in our oceans while also reducing the cost we need to purchase straws every single time we buy drinks in stores. The profits that we will make will be donated and used to purchase school supplies for some local schoolchildren living in poor communities in our city. We aim to have more widespread and large-scale actions in the future, always keeping in mind the SDGs and our vision of having a more sustainable community moving forward. Bridges PH is committed to the same advocacies that this platform, Tunza Eco-generation, has. To protect the planet that we all call home. Having said this, I will update you guys on Bridges' actions in the future and I hope that we will all stay committed to making our planet a better place to live in! |
