Reforestation: Importance and Practices

by Carlos Montemayor | 29-06-2018 13:45 recommendations 0

I am quite sure we all know what deforestation and reforestation are.

Reforestation, in a short sentence, is theounter-action to deforestation. It is the attempt and practice to repopulate balding forests with new young trees to combat both legal and illegal logging in various places around the globe.

Why do people do this? Because trees are incredibly important in our lives. Like, we literally will have a hard time living without trees. They produce oxygen, and reduce the air pollution coming from human activities. They are basically free natural air purifiers. And it is not only humans who benefit from this, but the whole global ecosystem. Trees are also able to reduce heat coming from the sun, making the planet a more comfortable and tolerable place to live in for all those in the Earth. They also serve as habitats and homes for various species of nature, as well as preserves the dwellings of other creatures by preventing soil erosion and other destructive natural phenomena such as this.

Having seen the importance of trees, how, as young people, can we help in repopulating the trees in our world? First, if we have the time and resources, we can plant trees! This can be done in several ways. If there are open areas near us, we can purchase cheap seeds or seedlings of different kinds of trees, and plant and maintain the trees in these areas. If this is not available or accessible to us, we can try to get involved with tree-planting activities and groups near us. These can usually be found with environmental groups who have tree-planting in their projects, or with businesses who have recently had construction projects that had destroyed trees in the process, and are trying to make up for these losses. We can be involved with these and truly make a change in reforestation.

By knowing the importance of reforestation and ways on how we can help in promoting these, we can truly make a positive impact and worthwhile difference on our planet. Hope you guys found this a helpful and beneficial read!
