A promise proposal to replace all motors running from diesel and petrol has been brought in Nepalese parliament . As this vehicles are the main source of air pollution, this proposal has been brought. According to environmentalist, 60% of air pollution in Kathmandu valley is caused due to the emission of gases by these vehicles.
Ex-health minister Gagan Thapa posed this proposal in parliament. He has requested the government to promise for replacement of all vehicles running by petroleum by 2027 in Kathmandu valley and by 2031 all over the country. Parliament members Rameshor Fuyal, Dipak Prasad Kuinel, Kanta Bhattarai, Kausar saha and others have supported this proposal. Proposal has requested the parliament to stop the selling and buying of all petroleum vehicles and bring proper working plan to implement it. The proposal focuses on to work on proper planning, implementation and similarly on government to provide subsidy to buy electric vehicles and tax earned through petroleum products buying and selling to be spent on environmental sector. In recent years, many countries have adopted the technology of electric vehicles. Our neighbour country India has also declared that all small vehicles will be replaced by electric vehicles with in 2030. If we could increase electric vehicles, we could save large economy going away through petroleum products. Proposal also focuses on to make Kathmandu valley was walk friendly and cycle city. PM 2.5 of air in Kathmandu valley is almost five times than fixed by WHO which has large impact on the health of the people. Diesel and petrol vehicles becoming major cause of air pollution, electric vehicles are getting popularity worldwide. |
