Elon Musk Is No Tony Stark: Why Tesla Won't Save Us |

Elon Musk is a rising tech-star that seems to be coming to the ranks of Tony Stark as the saviour of the human civilization. But even with all that, he regards himself as "Boring" and with "very limited impact". Elon Musk's Tesla, however, is a huge success. Tesla?s stock price has more than tripled over this past year. And this is all because the company, as few have expected, to pull off the low-cost yet all electric vehicle known as the Model 3. This new Tesla model is every environmentalist?s dream. A cost-effective way to save the environment while still maintaining that swag and being trendy. With this new model comes the installation of additional charging stations across the globe which makes it even more convenient for Tesla users. Tesla seems to be the go to for environmentally conscious people wishing to buy a car as it is more eco-friendly than other non-electric alternatives. However, not everyone rides in with all the optimism. Morgan Stanley?s latest papers reveal that Tesla isn?t as environmentally beneficial as we would all think. Here is a quote from their team: ?Whilst the electric vehicles and lithium batteries manufactured by these two companies do indeed help to reduce direct CO2 emissions from vehicles, electricity is needed to power them,? Morgan Stanley wrote. ?And with their primary markets still largely weighted towards fossil-fuel power (72% in the U.S. and 75% in China) the CO2 emissions from this electricity generation are still material.? (quote taken from Marketwatch: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/want-to-fight-climate-change-dont-invest-in-tesla-2017-08-17) The main idea behind it is that the energy that used to fuel Tesla is actually harmful towards the environment and Morgan Stanley even goes as far as to say that: ?the carbon emissions generated by the electricity required for electric vehicles are greater than those saved by cutting out direct vehicle emissions.? (quote taken from the same source as above) While there certainly is nothing wrong with the logical claims of Tesla, I would argue it somewhat fails to recognize the growing trend in the energy sector as the renewable energy industry continues to grow. Their claim that Tesla models are ?net negative? towards the environment may put a lot of people off. That is not to say, however, that all is lost. In fact, if anything is to be gained from this article, it is that we must strive even harder to gear the field of electricity production more towards the environment. It is wrong to make Tesla carry the entire burden of making the world more sustainable. Tesla is doing its share in the automobile industry. You what?s your share? |

Yeah I have heard some news about Tesla and his new revolutionary work but was quite unclear about it. Thanks for providing some deeper insights on the topic.
