Every day is Earth day

On April 10, me along with my friends from CTS(Creative Thinkers Society) decided to conduct an awareness programme in one of the remote village of lamjung. A small awareness programme was conducted among the locals of Parewadada, focusing on the major topic of environment friendly agricultural practices(with major focus on submerged rice plantation and Farm Yard Manure Management). Unmanaged application and deposition of FYM has seen to be a major contributing factor in the emission of GHG(especially methane and Carbon dioxide). In most of the agricultural country it is one of the major source of agricultural GHG. Similarly the methane emission from submerged cultivation of rice is also huge  So me being an agricultural students decided to teach them about the fruitful management of FYM.
The programme started at about 10 am. The locals were gathered in the local community school. Posters , presentation and drama were used to express our knowledge. The posters expressed about the negative impacts of unmanaged FYM management, submerged rice farming, negative effect of GHG on the environment and correct ways to remedy our flaws. The posters were hand made and coloured by us. They were a great way of expressing our knowledge. Short presentation was also given about all of this and this proved to be highly effective. One of the presentation was focused on SRI( System of Rice Intensification). SRI is a modern method of rice farming that implies alternate wetting and drying of the rice beds instead of their long continuous submergence.SRI not only helps in reducing the GHG emission as compared to submerged rice farming but also helps to increase the yield of rice. The locals were highly enthusiastic to learn about this new method. Another presentation focused on the correct management of FYM. The last presentation focused on other agriculture related environmental problems and ways to nullify them.
Two short videos were also shown. Finally a drama was presented by me and my friends about the flaws in FYM management and correct way of doing it. The drama covered all the topics about how the unmanaged deposition of FYM was affecting the environment, the correct way of doing it and the benefits of doing it correctly. After this the programme was ended. A lot of positive response from the locals. I was highly encouraged by their response and am committed to conduct such similar awareness programme in other places too.
