KENYA PLASTIC BAN |

Kenya made a big stride towards waste management. The cabinet Secretary for Environment and Natural Resources published a ban on the use, manufacture, and importation of plastic bags.
A gazette notice that was published today states that the ban will be effective 6 months from the date of the notice issuance (28th February 2017). As such, this ban is supposed to be effective on the 1st of September 2017. This is a critical step towards the eradication of plastic menace that has been observed in the country. Due to plastics being non-biodegradable, many streets, fields, dumpsites and households have been full of plastic waste. This has contributed to the filling of oceans, rivers, and lakes with plastic litter. Many fish feed on the microplastics and this affects the ocean biodiversity. This move from Dr. Judi Wakhungu was highly welcome and celebrated by all eco-friendly Kenyans

This is great. I am also happy that plastic bags are banned. That means no more animals will be mistaking them for food.
