Referring Ar Rum [30:41]: ?corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness]?, anthropogenic propositions have been condemned over the detriment of nature. Fact is fact, and we do believe it ensues and persists yet. It is alike what?s happening in Indonesia.

Indonesia, mega biodiversity country with top-three largest rainforests, is notoriously name as the world?s fifth largest emitter of greenhouse gases due to its forest convertion for agriculture and settlement. The severe phenomenon propels Indonesia government to internationally pledge on reducing 29% GHG emissions by 2030. For pushing forward the pledge, Indonesia youths has seriously exerted to actualize some climate change intiatives into action besides decisive youth policy intervening. From small to big action plans, the imparted impacts are the most indispensable regard which must be obtained.

Starting with Climate Smart Forestry, the Indonesian Green Action Forum (IGAF) was hand-challenged to help accelerate Indonesia commintment on GHGs reduction. Be grateful since SAYEN Handprint Challenge Program Grant aided remarkably the execution. After the period of the program, IGAF confronted botheration due to lack of financial assistance bringing about the delays in sustaining the project.

However, the aforementioned challenge did not inhibit the zeal of IGAFers on warding off climate change. As a solution, we have sustained the project by undertaking the project in small scale of elementary schools. In this year, we evolve and alter the project with a title of Carbon Farming School.

What are the distinction and sameness of two above-project?

Climate Smart Forestry leans more on overcoming climate change via forest conservation whereas Carbon Farming School is more favoring on tackling climate change by integrating education and agro-forest activities. The similiarity of the two is the major intent of climate change solving. Most of the targeted participants of the two are children, youths, and local communities.

As a brief elucidation, Carbon Farming School is intended for educating students and local communities of how the importance of agro-silvo sectors for climate change solution and for acting the initiatives into the ground. The project is also purposed for accelerating Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 15. This project is now financially supported under auspice of UNEP Eco-Peace Leadership Center (EPLC) and Yuhan Kimberly Ltd.  The project will be carried out for a year, taking place in Jepara and Bogor Regency, Indonesia.

As you know, the most ultimate goal of the project does not only persuade more than 1000 participants to get involved to the project but also provide a means to increase public awareness over climate change burden and solution. The project will be in form of a school for both students (elementary school to universities) and local communities. The proposed eco-activities comprise education, agroforestry, biocomposite, eco-creativities and games, and carbon stock measurement.
