I pledged to do my part in Earth Hour 2016 also like I have been doing for many years. So on 19th of March, I reached at Al Majaz Waterfront, Sharjah at the stipulated time in the Earth Hour event which was organized by The Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) in collaboration with the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa). People started arriving at the event as early as 5.30 pm where lots of awareness exhibitions, workshops and activities were organized that showcased the emirate's initiatives of protecting and preserving the environment and brochures were also distributed to raise awareness on the importance of reducing energy consumption.

Beautiful T-shirts were distributed with the theme of the earth Hour "This Earth Hour, Shine a Light on Climate Action" printed on it. I liked in particular the selfie competition for the audience, as it attracted lots of people to the event and helped in spreading knowledge and necessary roles they can play towards the environment.

The candles were lit on the Earth Hour "60+" logo during 8.30pm to 9.30pm when the lights were off. The event was not only successful in achieving approx. 25MW of energy saving and 20 tonnes of carbon emissions but also attracted a large crowd to support the Earth Hour campaign to call for action on climate change and to fight climate change. Therefore to share the challenges and opportunities of creating a sustainable world and for bringing a positive change in community these types of events are necessary.
