My Green Activities in 2015

2015 has been marked as a green year for me as I have provided myself with opportunities to be the force of positivity in my own country and even involved in various environmental activities which positively impacted on not only the environment but also the mindsets of local people living in the community and even students around my campus toward the environment where they lived in and depended upon daily for their survival.

At the beginning of 2015, I registered myself to be a member of IFL Organizing Committee, having the responsibility to conduct various school events, and was fortunately selected to be a university representative presenting the topic "Waste Management" to Chinese students during their exchange program to my university in Mar 2015. Besides this, I even took part in IFL Monthly Clean-up events and did green activities, such as cleaning up the classrooms, collecting rubbishes at the garden of IFL, etc., around my university campus which played a significantly crucial role in changing the perception of other students toward their university environment as they all noticed my green actions toward the university.

And as an advocate of 3R project run by Youth for Green under the supports of ASEAN community in April 2015, many students, including me, went to Sihanouk Ville to implement activities correlated to the project, such as creating plastic-bottle rubbish bins, cleaning up the beach, planting trees and educating local people how to manage the waste properly. When the project was thoroughly finished, all students became passionate about environment and knew their role as a green youth on earth. For local people, they began to change their bad habit – throwing waste everywhere on the beach – and their mindset toward their surrounding.

Additionally, I even sacrificed my time as well as energy to work as a facilitator in Water Sanitation Project at Krakor Floating Village hosted by ASEAN Youth Volunteer Programme for 1 month. Frankly speaking, one-month period couldn't improve the situation of local people there and even the environmental issue associated with Water Pollution much, we, at least, have successfully raised their awareness toward their surrounding by educating them on how to wash their hands properly, performing stories regarding the consequences of water pollution and how to prevent water from pollution, and distributing hygiene kits to local people and even students at primary levels at either the schools on ground or water.

Even if 2015 was also the last academic year of my university life, I still invested my precious time in joining social works since a useful person, from my own perspective, is not the one who only uses his/her brain to obtain knowledge and tries to get high GPA at the university. Instead, a useful person in my heart is the one who tries to get the true knowledge from the university and simultaneously contributes what he/she has learnt to his/her society and even youngsters in the next generation.
