Use of Cycles To Deliver Orders by Amazon India

by | 30-01-2016 19:20 recommendations 0

In a bid to have a eco-friendly environment, Amazon India , an e-commerce website is running a pilot programme for delivering orders via cycle.

The orders under the radius of 3-5 km will be delivered through this mode. The delivery team would be provided with geared bikes to carry packages of up to 7.5 kg per trip.

Started in Mumbai last month, ?the new delivery mode? has now expanded to Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi and Chennai. The company is also looking to expand this to more cities in the near future.

Speaking on the development, Samuel Thomas, transportation director at Amazon India said, ?Being conscious of the environment we live in, reducing carbon footprint is the need of the hour. We have taken this eco-friendly step by introducing bicycle deliveries, which also helps delivery associates with easier access in congested metro cities.?

Although simple, this is a very effective solution. Not only amazon saves up millions in fuel costs but also millions of tonnes of harmful gas emissions are also prevented this way.
