23rd December 2015 saw Delhi (The Capital of India) touch the absolute extreme in pollution levels. With safe limits of PM 2.5 and PM 10 being 60 and 100 respectively, Delhi was at a toxic 534 and 853 around Anand Vihar metro station (considered to be one of the most polluted localities of the city). The critical conditions pushed the Delhi Government to take drastic measures to reduce pollution. So the even/odd formula was introduced in the city, the results of which were mixed so to speak.
According to this rule would define which car you can drive on a particular date. On even dates, only cars with license plates ending with an even number will be allowed on city roads, and on odd dates, cars with license plates ending with an odd number will be allowed.
For example, on dates ending with 0,2,4,6 and 8, you can only drive a vehicle whose vehicle registration number ends with an even digit such as DL83AB0XX4. And on odd dates, you can drive vehicles whose registration number ends with odd digit. For example, DL83AB0XX3.
The rule has been enforced from 1st January this year. It's been 5 days now since the rule has been enforced and here are some numbers to know about. According to aqicn.org, the website that calculates the air quality of cities across the world, PM 2.5 in Anand Vihar at 3pm today, has gone down from 534 to 375 while PM 10 has dipped from 853 to 491. These numbers are in no way near the safe area but it is a clear indication that things are changing.
So , this is probably a right decision by the Delhi Governemt and they can surely reduce pollution to large extent by this rule .

well people would surely feel a bit of difficulty at first , but as the time passes to would get used to the public transport and the pollution would decrease too .
