There are three main types of ecosystem services that humans are an essential part of: provisioning, regulating and cultural services.

Provisioning services provide us with food and fibre, such as products from crops and forage, and materials from wood.

Regulating services include the extraction of chemicals to and from the atmosphere, including storing carbon and greenhouse gases, controlling temperature, filtering the water we use everyday, and managing pollination.

Last but not least are Cultural services. Cultural services provide us with human-centered cognitive and aesthetic enrichment. Ecosystems give us chance to interact with nature in many ways that can give us pleasure and can even be a source of inspiration.
