My Antarctic Expedition – My attempt to save our planet (Part 7)

This is a part of my ?Antarctica Calling? series, a story capturing my journey to Antarctica as a part of 2041, in the toughest leadership course on the planet as I learnt how can we save the only planet we have.

The Lemaire Channel (Contd.)

I continuously clicked photographs of all that was around me desperately trying to capture what I wanted to be forever store in my memory. My hands felt numb as I realized they had turned red from a beautiful pink colour they were only moments ago. As this distracted me from the sight around me, I realized how cold I suddenly was. My ears throbbed as the wind bit my face. Winds in Antarctica are a different type altogether from what we experience in India. They are dry, devoid of moisture as they strike the exposed parts of the body. Imagine falling in a pool of water, not diving but falling face down, the feeling we get as our bodies strike the surface is a variation of what the Antarctic wind throws at us. It is painful, cruel and anyone who has been to the Antarctic would recommend strong protection against them at all points of time.

I slowly retreated to my room as I realized I was in the coldest desert on the planet. A place that showed no mercy and survival in which required continual preparation and a state of readiness. We all soon realized, the Antarctic is to be respected and feared for it offers the most beautiful and harsh conditions on the planet. I was in expedition mode, the challenge had just begun and was about to get all the more exciting.
