ATTENDING THE 2015 YOUTH SUMMIT IN GERMANY

by | 19-05-2015 16:13 recommendations 0

It was in March this year that I was going through our website-the TUNZA Eco-Generation website- and I saw an enticing caption of an event in our events page and it read thus, "Invitation to the youth Summit 2015" scheduled for 20th to 25th May, 2015.
I read it in details and was captivated as it was clearly a very important and timely summit in our quest to reduce the scourge of climate change by working out good implementation measures to help achieve the 2?- being organized by Plant-for-the-Planet Foundation in partnership with UNEP, TUNZA and some other top environmental organizations.
So, I applied a few days later and in a couple of days, I received an email confirming that I have been selected to participate in the summit in Tutzing, Germany.
I couldn't believe it.
I was, indeed, overjoyed after reading the email and the rest of that day for me was utterly beautiful.
We exchanged a couple of emails to make sure of things and I began my preparation.

First, I was charged with finding support for my round trip flight ticket and local expenses in Nigeria as Plant-for-the-Planet Foundation will be taking care of everything in Germany and will refund some parts of my ticket fee.
In my search, I wrote to the Secretary to the Anambra State government-SSG- who I had once interviewed on my university radio station. He explained how difficult it was for the government to help me as the State's 2015 budget for honorary sponsorship had been exhausted but that we would try to support me a little on a personal basis. He did, at least his support took care of my Incidentals and a couple of other local expenses.

With that support from the SSG, I went swiftly into action by first, booking an appointment for Visa interview and then, getting all the required documents-from insurance to flight bookings and introduction letters which TUNZA Eco-Generation perfectly wrote me- ready for the visa interview.

On the 28th April, 2015, I left Anambra State in Eastern Nigeria to Lagos-Nigeria's commercial hub- for my visa interview scheduled for the next day(29th April).
I arrived after about six hours journey from my base and quickly located the hotel I already booked online for lodging.
Early on the 29th morning, I took all the required documents with me and headed for the No. 5 Walter Carrington Street Victoria Island Lagos- location of the German Embassy in Nigeria.
I arrived the street which also houses many other foreign embassies, and had to take a new passport photograph as the business people around informed me that I needed a passport with white background and what I had was one with a red background.
That done, I headed straight to the German embassy and joined the little cue of those that came for the same purpose. After preliminary checks, I was properly checked into the German embassy for my visa interview.
I went into the hall and there was some other Nigerians waiting for their turn for the interview.
I was offered a seat by the security man on duty where I sat down patiently waiting for my turn for the interview.
Little by little, my turn was inching closer and finally it came.
The yellow light shined at the top of door 2 and in I went.
My interviewer was a lady and she gave me an interesting interview. She even asked me of one popular environmentalist, a Professor in Kenya who died last year(you guys should guess the name Professor).
I enjoyed the interview and I believe she did too.
I left Lagos the next day for my base in Eastern Nigeria and little over one week later, my visa was delivered to me in Anambra State and everything is set for my travel.

I went for some shopping last Saturday to make sure any other missing piece of the jigsaw is fixed and ensure my successful participation in this summit.
I am taking an online course on climate change and I am sure that I will find it helpful during the summit.

I say a BIG THANK YOU to TUNZA Eco-Generation not just for posting this opportunity on our website, but for giving me this credible, spectacular and globally respected platform to represent them in Nigeria and now in this summit. Words fail me but I am sure you know how grateful I am.
Once again, thank you so much TUNZA Eco-Generation, you're indeed great.

To my fellow ambassadors, thank you all for the great work you are doing as all our efforts combine to make this platform ever spectacular and successful. I urge you all to keep applying for these opportunities as it will surely pay off, so far as you have demonstrated real commitment in this course. TUNZA Eco-Generation is indeed a success story.
I also thank the Plant-for-the-Planet Foundation for their committed efforts and relentless support in ensuring my successful participation in this summit, I am indeed grateful and I am confident that this summit will be a success.
Thank you all and you can be sure to have a full report of the event as it goes down in Germany.
I will be flying out of Nigeria to Germany later today by the grace of God.
Watch out for my updates.
