Hello dear Tunza Eco-Gen members,
I would like to share my well spent Earth Day in Dubai. On Earth Day, being the Prefect of the Environment Club of my school, I encouraged the planting of trees among various age groups of students in my school. Every year we plant saplings in our school premises and this time we saw an active participation from all the students from primary, middle and senior school.
I attended the WETEX 2015, an exhibition showcasing the efficient utilization of technology to lead a green lifestyle. I am interested a lot in converting trash to treasure, so as a part of my efforts towards the target to zero landfills, I made a beautiful cabinet out of used plywood with the help of my father. My mother?s kitchen was totally in a mess and all the items were placed here and there in a disorganized way. Now, thanks to the cabinet I made there is orderliness in my mom?s kitchen. The best part of it was that it was made out of used plywood from a cupboard.
I also took a pledge to charge all the mobile phones of my household with solar energy using my solar charger that was gifted to me by Bee?ah, Sharjah?s leading waste management company. I also wanted to spread the green message among my community to segregate waste in their household. I went one step further by placing cartons on various floors of my building in an attempt to collect recyclables from my neighbourhood. The cartons had a simple message to conserve the resources for the future generations and recycle paper and plastic generated in their domestic household. These helped me to increase my versatility and efficiency of collecting and recycling these items and depositing them to waste management companies including Bee?ah and Emirates Environmental Group. This not only helped to reduce my carbon footprint but the carbon footprint of my entire society.
In a nut shell, it was a well spent Earth Day with a simple message that Youth Actions lead to Global Impacts (theme of year 2015) ranging from spreading the message of leading an eco-friendly lifestyle to involving the judicious utilization of resources. Thank you Tunza Eco-Generation for this wonderful monthly event that helped all of us to spread the message of conserving and protecting our mother earth.
