agrometerological condition in nepal |
---|
Meteorology is referred as ? Physics of the lower atmosphere? which studies phenomenon of the atmosphere and is concerned with the study of the characteristics and behaviour of the atmosphere. Agrometerology is combination of agriculture with meteorology which investigates the physical conditions of the enviroment of growing plants or animal. Relationship between climatic/weather conditions and agriculture is dealt by agrometerology. Meterology started back in 350 BC, when aristotle first discussed in his book Meteorology. Since then meteorology has been developed in different era by different person. Though the studies related meteorology was started millions of year ago, progress did not occur till the 18th century, 19th and 20th century being the pioneer of the modern meteorology and agrometeorology. Some of achievement being the weather forecasting, weather prediction by numerical process, weather forecast with computers, the chaos theory, development of climatic model of older times and formulating the climateshift etc. Theory of Norwegian physicist Vihelm Bjerknes in 1977 describing formation of wave cyclones on the polar front laid foundation for modern methods of weather forecasting. Similarly modern advancement such as: In 1922, L. F. Richardson perceived the basis for the mathematical prediction of the atmospheric circulation, and in 1938 C. G. Rossby made additional mathematical contributions. Application of this treatment by Richardson and Rossby awaited the introduction of high-speed electronic computers, which were first used for weather forecasting in the late 1940s by J. G. Charney and John Von Neumann. By 1955 computer forecasts were being made operationally and computer forecasting models have been improved steadily since then. 1959 meteorological satellites have provided an overview of the atmosphere's cloud patterns, serving among other things as an early warning and detection system for hurricanes, typhoons, and tropical cyclones. The last decade of 20th century saw more development in the field of meteorology and agrometeorology which was continued in the 21st century and advanced being the remote sensing equipment. Since at that present research were done at indoor condition which has limitations and advancement were made by shifting research to the outdoor conditions, such green house etc. Research in meteorology is done by using different instruments including remote which donot affect the natural conditions of crops. The research is based on the different observations and biometric observations, yield and other crop growth development factors. Research by observing the effect of climate to plants different conditions of light, heat and moisture and also about injuries during winter and injury by the dry winds. The chief concerns of modern agrometeorology is more advancement of forecasting meteorological phenomenon that endanger agriculture. All the meterological phenomenon related activities are governed by the department of hydrology and meterology such as forcasting weather, predicting rain and incoming of monsoon. Headquater situated at kathmandu and meteorological stations situated as Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Dhangadi, Biratnagar, Jumla, dang, pokhara, Bhairahawa, Simra, Kathmandu, Okhaldhunga, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Jomsom, Dharan. These collect and disseminate hydrological and meteorological information for water resources, agriculture, energy and other development activities. Agrometerology is seen under the hydrology division. Many agrometeorologica station are located all over Nepal in different agriculture research center. Weather forecasting system in nepal is very conventional. Lack of the latest infrasturcture that provide accurate forecasting of weather. Techinal difficulties in these station is preventing to forecast accurate weather conditions. For the development of the agrometeorology in Nepal hydrological and meteorological euipment were handed by International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) on 11 April 2011 . |
