Carbon repeal underway
Federal legislation repealed the Clean Energy Act 2011 effective from 1 July 2014. This means that the costs associated with the Act have been removed. We are committed to passing these savings back to you.
How does the repeal of the carbon costs affect me? The savings delivered by the repeal of the carbon costs will be returned to you. Most customers will see a reduction of 1.2% of the water services/consumption component of their remaining 4 bills for this financial year.
When will the pricing adjustments come into effect? The adjustments come into effect on 1 November 2014.
What happens to the carbon costs I paid between 1 July and 1 November 2014? We will return this to you by applying a 1.2% reduction to your remaining 4 bills of this financial year.
Will I see a difference in my next bill? Your next bill won?t necessarily be smaller than your last. The size of your bill will still depend on your water use during the billing period. You can check our pricing structure by visiting your bill and charges and selecting the 'Water use charges' tab.
Why won?t I receive a credit or a refund for the carbon costs I paid between 1 July and 1 November 2014? The introduction of the carbon costs increased Water Corporation?s costs by only 0.8%. These extra costs were applied in 2012.
The 1.2% reduction to your next 4 bills from 1 November 2014 will compensate for any carbon costs paid on your account between 1 July and 31 October 2014. This means that you will save on your water use for the rest of the year, rather than receive a credit or a refund.
Why are the savings much less than what I am receiving from my gas and electricity suppliers? The introduction of the carbon costs increased Water Corporation?s costs by 0.8%, or around $10.65 on the average metropolitan customer?s bill, which is much less than the costs incurred by gas and energy suppliers. |
