Eco Houses and Eco Cities becoming more popular?

I'm studying German, and because of that i'm becoming more aware of what Germany people is doing right now about the environment. Germany is now making a huge effort in developing eco-friendly country. Since the Japan tsunami accidents that damaged their nuclear reactor, Germany tried to stop using nuclear as their source of energy and making renewable energy more efficiently. Lands in Germany are limited, most of them are owned by the government. So not all people allowed to do whatever they want to their surrounding environment. They are making green roofs and walls. You can see the example below:
