One of the main objectives of EEG is the empowerment of youth in environmental issues by building capacity and providing a proper educational base. Emirates Environmental Group has been implementing objectives of UNESCO?s Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, which is soon coming to an end, since the launch of this initiative. The Students? Workshop is one of those implementation platforms, giving the younger generation an opportunity to learn the value of a sustainable future and the methodologies they themselves can use to work towards it. In the last year of this declared decade, Emirates Environmental Group held a very special Students? Workshop entitled?Sustainability the Way Forward?. Last year?s workshop alone witnessed a total of 445 students and 102 teachers from 88 schools all over UAE. The outreach is wide, targeting the age groups of 10 years to 22 years.
In this special cycle to commend Education for Sustainable Development, the Students? Workshop was centralized on the students and their solutions. Interactive sessions, debates, and discussions were all a major theme in this workshop, influencing students to cooperate and learn from each other. The Students? Workshop has always been a much awaited event for students and teachers.
The workshops catered to four different age groups Junior (10 years), Sub Senior (13 years) and Senior (16– 18 years), and university level students. It targeted youth who will ultimately be tomorrow's global citizens. The topics being covered were of high relevance to the current global environmental scenarios.
The workshop began with 'Art From Waste' where they they displayed several mesmrising paintings made from recycled material such as recycled straws, plastic bottles, wastepapers, etc.
Then the students were taught on how sustainability at the domestic level can in some way or another contribute towards sustainability at the global level and also discussed and debated on solutions for a greener tomorrow.(Through domestic recycling, upcycling, and also in places like villages where bio-fuel is widely in use)
Towards the end, we made posters on our ideas for sustainability and finally communicated our ideas that can serve as best solutions towards sustainability.

Well reported Manav. I have also attended the same workshop.
My Candle stand [made from waste material] was one of the exhibits & I have made my presentation also at the workshop.
I'll shortly write my report on the same.
