The OZONE LAYER protection day! :)

by | 02-10-2014 04:35 recommendations 0

We all know that most of the things that are being depleted from our planet, have one specific day for them, where in we acknowledge them and take pledges to conserve them! We spread awareness on how these events should not be restricted to just one day, and should be practiced throughout the year.

And so, the blanket around our earth, that protects us from the harmful sun rays too has a special day for itself. You guessed right :) International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, which is recognized annually on September 16th.

I decided to make this 16.09.2014 special for me, and my society.
I have always been motivated towards spreading awareness on the most heated topic of environment and what harms are they causing and also have a urge to tell people all about what humans have done in the past, and what we the youth, along with the society need to do now.
So i decided to make a poster and hand it out to my building friends and families telling them about the Ozone Layer and its current situation.
Every year during spring, a hole as big as the USA develops over Antarctica and a smaller hole over the Arctic. This is a major issue as a hole in the ozone  layer is also a cause of Global Warming.

I'd like to tell you a bit about the basics here. The Ozone layer is actually a gas layer made up of 3 Oxygen molecules(O3). This gas is found some 15 to 35 kilometers above the Earth?s surface in the upper atmosphere or stratosphere. For over 50 years, chlorofluorocarbons, or CFCs, were thought of as miracle substances. They are stable, nonflammable, low in toxicity, and inexpensive to produce. But one chlorine atom can destroy over 100,000 ozone molecules. The net effect is to destroy ozone faster than it is naturally created.

And the only way to prevent any catastrophe from occurring is that we need to take an initiative now! An initiative to unite people and to work together, because our small steps can create a huge impact. I was glad that I did my bit and told my family and friends all about the ozone layer conservation so they too can further pass it on. It's your chance now, and i encourage you all to spread awareness on such a crucial issue to you acquaintances and society :D

Good inititaive Shreya. Neat , informative and colourful poster . You are right we must spread awareness as much as possible about such issues. Not many people know about Ozone layer depletion and it's impacts. Thanks for sharing your work .
