Zero Emissions Day - ZeDay !

by | 22-09-2014 16:23 recommendations 0

In a world where technology is advancing at a rapid pace, it becomes the responsibility of our youth to make sure this advance and sustainable!

The most heated environmental topics of today's world are Global Warming, Ozone Layer Depletion, Polar Ice-Caps Melting, and what not! But if seen, the main reason of this is the harmful emissions human causes. The CFC's released are especially the main cause of Global Warming and Ozone Layer Depletion. The sulphur dioxide present in CFC's, causes acidic rain which in turn not only leads to corrosion but also is responsible for death of aquatic life.

So every year, there should be at least sometime where everyone goes back to square one! When everyone can take a break and give the world a break. And so I encourage each one of you to celebrate the Zero Emissions Day (September 21) and Car Free Day (September 22) in collaboration to do your bit.

On these two days, we all need to go back to mother nature and appreciate her.
The guide lines for celebrating ZeDay and CarFreeDay are simple:
1. Don?t use or burn oil or gas or coal
2. Minimize (or eliminate) your use of electricity generated by fossil fuels.
3. Use public transport like buses or metros to reach your destinations (or if this isn't possible, try carpooling!)
4. Spread awareness about this around you, especially to the youngsters so they know what is right and what is wrong. :)

But we all need to note that, having Zeday and CarFreeDay on particular dates does not mean we can't do it everyday. Wouldn't it be nice if we show our gratitude to mother earth everyday by doing simple tasks like reduce our water/electricty usage and following the 3R's in our daily lives?

The small steps we take personally can lead to an impact globally!
It's up to each of us to take care of our planet at this point and i hope we live up to our responsibilities.

@Rahul, it's really good that you use public transport and are doing your bit to contribute to saving the environment :)
@Alina I'm really glad that i could share it with you all :)
@Almustapha Yes! That's exactly what we need to do. Treat everyday like ZeDay and enjoy it. But also make sure that we're sustainable during this period :D
@Christy Ofcourse i did! and i'm glad you did too. I took the bus to the metro station with my family, and then from there we got down at a metro stop nearest to a park, and had a wonderful evening together :)
@Arushi That's great to hear! Keep it up :)
@Hyong Yes it truly is. Especially in our current world, we need to keep a check on the harmful effects humans are causing and try our best to reduce it :D

    - Thank you all very much and I am very happy to know that you all took initiative and celebrated this day with zest and enthusiasm! Hope we all follow such good deeds daily :D

We often use public trasport and take walk for near market instead of using personal vehicle. few years back during my high school, we used cycle to reach to our school. there was really fun in using bicycles and going with friends. Bicycles are great for the health of both ours and environment. :)
Zeday and Carfreeday a great concept indeed @Shreya

So now we have it, so let us celebrate zero emmission and carfree day with the advice given here, please we should also extend it beyond these two days. Remember we humans contribute alot to climate changes, so let us take actions to mitigate it. Thanks Shreya, for this info

Have you celebrated the Zero Emission Day and Car free day? If so, please leave a comment here. For me, I took a metro instead of a private vehicle on that day. :) Of course we should do our best to use public transports instead of private one.

I used public transport with my group of friends on 22nd Sept-car free day. Thanks for highlighting these days and need of our action. Last year I tried to spread awareness by writing to newspaper which was published on car free day.

Zero emissions is a very good movement as it actively proposes minimising the amount of emissions (be it CO2, CFC or sulfur dioxide) and hence minimise negative impact on the environment. Thanks for sharing, Shreya.
