Consequences I see in Nepal due to climate change |

Nepal is a mountainous country where lies the world highest mountain Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha), and there are other high mountains as well. The north region of Nepal is bordered by range of Himalays, to the south of which are the hills, densely covered by forest and further south is the Terai belt, also known as the green house of Nepal as the agricultural production of the region feeds the whole country. The changing climate has started its impact on this region.
Taking it from the northern belt, the snow-clad mountains have turned into a rocky snow-less range due to the increase of temperature. As a result of the melted ice, the snow glaciers are expanding and there is always a danger of the glaciers exploding. Hence, it has increased risk for the people residing nearby such areas. The climate pattern has changed drastically with fluctuation precipitation which on one hand has increased drought in the hills while on the other hand has caused natural disasters like landslides and flood.
Photo: travelling-tours.blogspot.com Similarly, the terai belt which principally depends on the rivers and lakes of the region for irrigating the fields is on a crisis due to drying of the water sources. The land goes dry and barren without water and thus supports no life in it. This is just a brief insight on the problem Nepal is facing due to the climate change. Other problems like increased occurrence of disease in plants an animals due to climate change are yet to be measured. So, effective measures are to be taken to mitigate the problem.
