Organic Farming and its perspective |
---|
"As you sow so you reap", the idiom here I am using as a straight meaning to the farm production system. The crops we harvest is the outcome of what we have sown and all the care we invested till the day of harvesting. Farming can be broadly classified as i) Inorganic farming ii) Organic farming
Inorganic practice is rampant and practiced throughout the world where there is extensive use of chemical fertilizers and synthetic pesticides. Similarly there is use of hormones, growth promoters and such many chemicals. In short its a chemical war to protect crops and raise the production. Opposite to the inorganic farming the organic farming intermingles the modern technologies with the traditional practices. Organic farming is a system of agriculture which uses biological methods eg, Integrated pests management (IPM), green manuring, rotation of crops and similar procedures while it strictly discourages the use of synthetic petrochemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. This is a more environment friendly approach and equally promotes human health. The Atrazine, a synthetic chemical used as pesticide which has negatively affected the frog population so there is a call worldwide to ban its uses. Its just an example, there are lots and lots of example of it. Further I will be updating on organic farming techniques and also Integrated pest management.
