On World Food Day, all of us who are fortunate to sleep with our bellies full, must take some time to think about those who are not as fortunate as us. Let us all work towards a zero hunger world. I want to share with you all, a small poem that I have written for this occasion- A plea from a hungry child...
THINK EAT SAVE
I woke up one gloomy morning, my empty belly begging for more
Bursting with emptiness inside, no different from the night before
All ten years of my lousy long life, only constant- the pain of hunger
My first memory and many more, of horrid howling hungry starvation
Scavenging waste, digging trash, all these years I've survived and grown
Struggling with hopeless poverty, homeless, feeling naked in rags torn
Mother Earth has so much to offer, then why so many starve and die?
The rich have so much to waste, while millions with need whine and cry
Like a snail life crawls moment by moment, I slog forever day and night
A piece of bread, a shred of food, for every single bite I've had to fight
The next meal is your only thought, when you are deprived and starving
Food is all you can think of, your hunger so dominant and overpowering
So next time you don't like your food, or some of your meal you waste
Stop and think of those who can not even afford a tiny morsel to taste.
Think before you waste your food, eat only as much as you can have
Save food to save the planet from starvation? THINK... EAT... SAVE

Thank you Eco Generation for appreciating. I wrote this poem for a Think Eat Save Campaign on an event on World Environment day 2013 and have been going on changing and improving it since then! I think, now it tells what I actually want to convey! My parents always tell us that we must appreciate the value of every grain because there are many for whom a decent meal is a luxury.
