Spice garden in Goa

by | 18-08-2013 16:37 recommendations 0

A trip to Goa would be incomplete without a visit to the spice plantations. As you enter these spice gardens the atmosphere becomes serene and peaceful, the pleasant aroma of the spices wafts through the air, the sound of chirping of birds, the sights, smells and sounds make these gardens like the one of Eden

We visited the Pascoal spice village situated on the banks of the river Khandapar that originates from the famous Dudhsagar falls. Organic farming is practiced here. Nutmeg, cardamom, cinnamon, vanilla are some of the many spices grown here.

There are cottages built according to the Portugese architecture. These cottages are covered with coconut leaves other than the rainy season. The restaurant offers food made out of the spices from the garden. They also serve the traditional kaju feni made out of cashew apple and is served in a specially made coconut shell.

In Shakari spice farms they provide folk dances and guests are given a demonstration on how to climb the betelnut trees and the art of tree swinging from these palms is shown, guests can also try it out, which brings a lot of excitement. We then visited a farm owned by a friend which grows mainly sugarcane.
