climate change and its adverse effect in agriculture

by | 27-07-2013 18:17 recommendations 0

Climate change is a significant and lasting change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns over periods ranging from decades to millions of years. It may be a change in average weather conditions, or in the distribution of weather around the average conditions (i.e., more or fewer extreme weather events).
One of the most adverse effect of climate change is in agriculture which directly affects the food produced in this world.
The level of carbondioxide in the world is increasing due to the increased use of vehicles which emit a large amount of carbondioxide.
The effect of increased temperature and COlevels on arable crops will be broadly neutral:
bullet

The range of current crops will move northward

bullet

New crop varieties may need to be selected

bullet

Horticultural crops are more susceptible to changing conditions than arable crops

bullet

Field vegetables will be particularly affected by temperature changes

bullet

Phaselous bean, onion and sweetcorn are most likely to benefit commercially from higher temperatures

bullet

Water deficits will directly affect fruit and vegetable production
