World Sea Turtle Day-16th June

by Arushi Madan | 17-06-2013 02:28 recommendations 0

Today , 16th June is  World Sea Turtle Day . On this day  , we should raise awareness  of the plight of marine turtles and the need to protect them.

Six of the seven species of marine turtles are listed as Endangered or Critically Endangered, and the outlook is increasingly grim. WWF is working globally to conserve marine turtles by establishing and strengthening protected areas around nesting beaches and halting illegal trade.

The World Sea Turtle Day, which is celebrated each June 16, was created in honor of Dr. Archie Carr, a naturalist who dedicated his life to understanding sea turtles. Carr is responsible for much of what we know today about the biology of these species.
