First Middle East Biodiesel Project

McDonald?s UAE logistics fleet now runs on fuel made from its used vegetable oil. The biodiesel is converted by the Dubai-based company ?Neutral Fuels?, a UAE-backed venture that makes use of environment friendly technology. ?Neutral Fuels?operates the Middle East?s first commercial biodiesel plant. 

The initiative is part of Dubai?s green schemes and is a team effort that also incorporates Dubai FDI, the foreign investment promotion arm of the Department of Economic Development. This collaboration would see all used vegetable cooking oil from all McDonald?s UAE restaurants collected and recycled every month into Biodiesel used to run its chain?s fleet of trucks.

Following the launch of its biodiesel initiative last year, McDonald's UAE is proud to announce its fleet of logistics trucks has now travelled a combined 1,301,012km running on used vegetable oil from McDonald's outlets. The achievement highlights the benefits of biodiesel as an alternative energy source and has resulted in major reductions in the company's carbon footprint.

McDonald's UAE's biodiesel campaign was launched in July 2011 with the support of Dubai FDI, the foreign investment promotion arm of the Department of Economic Development. Under this initiative, 100% used vegetable oil is collected from McDonald's outlets across the UAE and converted into 100% biodiesel by McDonald's cleantech partner, Neutral Fuels. The biodiesel is then used to fuel the company's logistics fleet.

    Our installations are aimed at a wide range of users - small enterprises, municipalities, farms and even for home use.
    For the production of biodiesel, any biomass of both animal and plant origin containing fats is suitable.

    Christy, my report is n response to a report by Rajashree, Ambassador dated 04-Apr-13 where it was mentioned about Indian Car using bio-diesel. It's an exciting concept.
