I would like to spread awareness about the simple actions that can be adopted to incorporate sustainability in our daily lives. UAE is spending lot on sustainabilty and alternative sources of energy. There are many people like me who from the bottom of their heart , want to incorporate sustainability in their daily lifestyle but may be short of ideas. Ways of living more sustainably can take many forms from reorganising living conditions (e.g., ecovillages, eco-municipalities and sustainable cities), reappraising economic sectors (permaculture, green building, sustainable agriculture), or work practices (sustainable architecture), using science to develop new technologies (green technologies, renewable energy and sustainable Fission and Fusion power), to adjustments in individual lifestyles that conserve natural resources. There are many sustainable behaviours which if adopted can improve our lives and the life of our planet for future. Some common practices which most of us are aware are like switching off the lights when not in use , recycle and reuse the material if possible , be conscious of your daily energy use etc. There are so many unique/lesser known ways of leading a sustainable life which I came to know during my recent visit to one of its kind in UAE store called ?The Change Initiative? , I was amazed to see innumerable ideas by which one can have green or energy efficient lifestyle products . The young innovative minds of DPS Sharjah Eco-Committee under the guidance of Ms. Anjum Hasan visited ?THE CHANGE INITIATIVE? in Al Barsha . We were warmly welcomed by the kind team of the said store. Ms. Sheena (Knowledge Head at the Change Initiative store) then took the initiative of explaining us the vast topic, SUSTAINABILITY. She covered 5 major components of a building LOCATION, ENERGY, WATER, WASTE, BUILDING MATERIALS. We got an insight of a green building After investigation of the building from the deep inside busy green offices to the green outside surrounding, we at each different stop discussed with the group one green thing that each of us found at that particular stop. Ecofriendly furniture, paints and fashion accessories were all stylish and ecologically sound . We all were amazed and dumbstruck seeing how materials we thought once used like from cans (aluminum or tin) to seatbelts could not be recycled were recycled in such an innovative way and sold at such cheap prices conveying the message CHEAP BUT THE BEST. After this we discussed the different sources of energy which is a major part of sustainability like solar, wind, geothermal and the very knowledgeable staff who answered each of our questions with utmost patience and satisfaction. After the visit we realised that any segment of our lifestyle can be as sustainable as we want . There are enough green ways to make any building sustainable and this is what THE CHANGE INITIATIVE wants to prove that it is the realisation that can have an impact.This store is a one stop destination , providing sustainable solutions for the community , business and government. We had a good exposure of a truly sustainable building which convinced us that we can integrate sustainability into our day to day lives.

Ventatesan, if you come from Abu Dhabi Side on Shk Zayed Road, take barsha exit, before Salik Gate, be on your Right only. This building is before the Mall of Emirates, near to Cesars.
