AWARDED AND APPOINTED PIONEER (FIRST) FOUNDER MEMBER FOR THE NEWLY FORMED CARTOONA CLUB IN DUBAI –UAE IN THE MORNING AND BECAME THE 8th UNEP TUNZA ECO-GENERATION REGIONAL AMBASSADOR FOR MIDDLE EAST REGION IN THE EVENING – by Simran Vedvyas

Today, I took the oath and became the FIRST founder member of the EEG?s newly formed CARTOONA CLUB and the only one to be awarded with the CERTIFICATE OF MEMBERSHIP, as I fulfilled all the requirements from amongst 33 students from various schools of United Arab Emirates present.  I hope that this award of mine will encourage other students also to fulfill their targets and work for a Greener tomorrow. 

The certificate of membership was awarded Ms. Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson EEG Board Member, UN Global Compact and officials from Tetra Pak.  Emirates Environmental Group aims to work Together for a better Environment and is a reputed NGO with accredited Status with the UNCCD, UNEP and a Member of UNGC and IUCN.  I promote the principles of EEG.

An orientation and an oath taking ceremony was held to launch the Pioneer Members of the Cartoona Club and for the members to formally accept  their commitment to the club and the responsibilities assigned to them.

I also attended the orientation session in the first part of the program and learnt more about Tetra Paks and the packaging and how best to recycle it.

My  main duty, as a Cartoona Club member and eco-guardian, is to ensure that the Tetra Pak Recycling Project is properly implemented in my school.

I was awarded a badge,which should be worn in school at all times, as a symbol of my commitment to the project.

To become a certified member of Cartoona Club, I fulfilled the following requirements:

a.      To collect a minimum of 5 kgs of empty tetra pak containers per month for a continued period of  three months;
