RISE UP (Research Inclined Students for the Environment in Uplifting the Philippines) Country: PhilippinesLocation: Olongapo city, Philippines RISE UP (Research Inclined Students for the Environment in Uplifting the Philippines) is an organization of students taking up research subject at Olongapo City National High School. Since it started it has been constantly in search of worthwhile projects that would contribute to the environmental awareness of students and teachers. Among the important environmental problems it has taken up is the toxic contamination in the environment of Olongapo City particularly the contaminated rivers in Subic that threatens the quality of the drinking water of the population.The research on the immediate environment led the organization further to gather testimonials from workers of the former naval facility. Hence the organization came to know about the imminent danger of the toxics in the environment that are already taking a toll on the health of the people.The researches led RISE-UP to seek innovative ways and methodologies by which they could help solve or mitigate the health and environmental effects of the problems in partnership with different groups in the community.
