ITS EcoCampus: Being Environmental-friendly Academic Institution

by | 30-11-2014 00:28 recommendations 0

Hello my fellow friends, i'm currently studying in Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Surabaya, Indonesia. Since 2011 ITS has been trying to become the first eco-friendly institution in Indonesia.

I'm going to share our program and how we keep on being friendly to the environment.

There are 7 main programs:
1. Greening and Landscaping, freshmen are encourage to plant 1 tree for one group. Each group consist of 5-10 people, and it's becoming an annual thing because every year there are new freshmen.

2. Internal Management, increasing the infrastructure inside the campus by making a bike lane and decreasing vehicle park spots. It encourages students use bike instead of motor vehicle inside the campus, besides it makes us more healthy, it also lowers the carbon emission from the motor vehicle.

3. Waste Management, by segregating trash and increasing awareness from the current students, and also by nurturing natural lake for flood prevention.

4. Water efficiency, developing infrastructure to repair sewer and water system, in order to have an effective and efficiency use of water.

5. Engineering Residual, certain departments in my campus, decided to make waste more useful by turning plastics or wood waste into something more valuable.

6. Green Masterplan, with the support from the local government, we are trying to have a renewable energy planted in our campus to facilitate all activities, although this one is going to be tough and not going to happen in the mean time, but our best success for now is by research and development of electric school bus, which is currently big on the news.

I hope that my academic institution can be the role model for eco-friendly campus throughout nation, or more, globally.

Thank you
It means Disease-free free from pollution, water, and waste free from flood and trash This logo has been placed around campus since 2011
